Counterpain Original is a warming topical massage cream in a 100 g tube. The aromatic, easy-to-spread cream is designed for targeted application to intact skin when muscles feel tired or uncomfortable after everyday activity.
Formula and application sensation
The manufacturer identifies methyl salicylate 10.2%, levomenthol 5.44% and eugenol 1.36% in the Original formula. This combination gives the cream its characteristic warming, cooling and aromatic profile. It is a topical preparation rather than a daily body moisturiser or an inhaler.
How to use
Read the tube and leaflet before use. Apply a small amount to clean, dry, unbroken skin and massage gently over the intended area. Follow the frequency and age restrictions printed on the supplied pack. Wash hands after applying and avoid touching your face or eyes.
Precautions specific to topical massage products
For external use only. Avoid eyes, mouth, mucous membranes and broken, irritated or damaged skin. Do not use with a heating pad, hot compress or tight occlusive dressing. Stop if marked irritation occurs. Keep out of reach of children. Ask a pharmacist before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for a child, or if you have a relevant allergy.
The Original cream contains a salicylate. People taking warfarin or another anticoagulant, or with aspirin or salicylate sensitivity, should obtain professional advice before using it. More cream or more frequent application does not mean better results.
