A shade name or a model photograph is an illustration, not a prediction of the result on every starting colour. Previously coloured lengths, natural roots, lightened hair and porous ends can take up colour differently. Use a strand test and the manufacturer's colour chart when planning a change.
Preparation and compatibility
Check the full retail instructions for the required developer strength, mixing ratio and processing time. Do not select these from a photograph or substitute a developer based only on another brand's directions. Use a non-metallic mixing bowl if specified and suitable gloves. Do not use on eyelashes or eyebrows, or on an irritated scalp. An allergy alert test is required before every application, even if you have coloured your hair before.
