The Madame Heng story: a family soap with a name of its own

Madame Heng’s story starts in a family home, with a ginger soap made for the household. Neighbours asked to try it, and the family’s son saw how a domestic recipe could become a business. The soap was developed for a wider audience under the name Merry Bell, before the brand took the name of the family’s mother.

The name “Madame Heng” itself came from French perfume-industry contacts who addressed her that way. The family adopted the name, giving the growing soap business a personal identity. From that beginning, the range expanded into different soap recipes and presentation styles, while Merry Bell remained part of its story.

Our collection connects that heritage with the present range. Original Merry Bell is the traditional 160 g herbal bar in its familiar red-and-yellow carton; Natural Balance Care Spa offers Wood, Mint and Rose versions at 150 g. Whether you prefer the Original or a spa recipe, each is a bar for a straightforward washing ritual: lather, rinse and let the soap dry between uses.

How to use

Wet the bar and lather between wet hands. Massage the lather gently onto the skin, then rinse thoroughly with clean water. For a lightly textured herbal bar, apply with a gentle touch. Place the soap on a draining dish between uses so it can dry.

Care and storage

For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes and do not use on broken or irritated skin. Stop using if irritation occurs. Keep unopened units in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and standing water. Keep the remaining units sealed until needed. The soap dish, towel and other setting accessories shown in the photographs are not included.
