From a Paris laboratory to an international beauty brand

The story began in France in 1909, when chemist Eugène Schueller founded the Société Française des Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux. Hair colour was the starting point: he developed dyes for Parisian hairdressers, placing formulation and research at the centre of the business. The company adopted the L’Oréal name in 1939.
